He started playing soccer when he was 4 years old. At the age of 12 he began playing for the Arsenal Youth System, and played with them until he was 16 years old. His A.Y.S. team won the Youth Cup twice and he was chosen for the "All England Boys Team". At 16 he played with the Arsenal Reserves and was offered a contract, but decided not to accept it. From the ages of 17-19 he played for a semi-pro team called Kingsbury F.C. From there he was asked to play for Hayes F.C. from the ages of 19-21. At that point he had to make a decision between furthering his education in America or continue with his dream to become a Pro-Football Player in England. Ricky chose to take the opportunity and come to the US.
He arrived in the United States in 1996 and played for Harris Stowe State College in St. Louis, Missouri. The team went from last place to winning at Regionals two consecutive years. In 1998 the team went all the way to Nationals!
1996-1998 Awards:
First Team All Conference 3 Times!
All American 2 Times
Ricky then left the college scene and decided to go pro. He played for the St. Louis Ambush for one year and then joined the St. Louis Steamers when the Ambush folded.
Fast forwarding to the present. Ricky has a son (Jordan) and daughter (Chloe) and is no longer involved in Professional Soccer as a player. In addition to MC United, Ricky is also the Head Coach for the Harris Stowe State College Women's Team.
Ricky says, “I have always known that soccer is my LIFE. I will never give it up. I decided to make my life about soccer, for myself and for children around me. My passion is to teach soccer to children. This gives me the chance to make a life out of it, and to watch myself and my skills in children.”
